Andy Barr, Founder, STET Communications

Andy Barr is a Washington-based speechwriter with a decade of experience helping some of the nation’s most influential power players give voice to their ideas.

His clients have included Vice President Joe Biden, U.S. Senators, candidates and campaigns across the country, CEOs of major corporations, executives at advocacy and trade organizations, nationally-recognized thought leaders, best-selling authors, and private citizens.

Andy began his career working with now-Senator Al Franken on two New York Times #1 best-selling books, as well as Franken’s Air America Radio show, before serving as political director for his Midwest Values PAC and communications director for his 2008 campaign.

After Franken’s victory, Andy served as chief speechwriter for Senator Chris Dodd as Dodd led the fight for passage of landmark health care and financial reform in 2009 and 2010.  He then joined Well & Lighthouse, a boutique new media firm in Washington, where he launched a speechwriting practice and served as creative director and senior communications strategist for the firm’s digital clients.  In both 2012 (Charlotte) and 2016 (Philadelphia), he was a member of the speechwriting team at the Democratic National Convention.

In 2013, Andy founded STET Communications, where he continues to work with a wide variety of clients on an even wider variety of projects: full-length manuscripts, keynote speeches, commencement addresses, op-eds, journal articles, fundraising materials, internal communications, and even the occasional roast. He has also led workshops on writing and persuasion at SXSW Interactive, and in the spring of 2019 is serving as an Adjunct Member of the Faculty at George Washington University’s School of Media and Public Affairs, teaching a graduate-level course on speechwriting.
